THE CAMPAIGN BEGINS: Our wooden-shoed friend Vander Plaats (he's Dutch, people) attacks Nussle's inability to cut pork from federal budget, contradicting Iowa's 5-1 hog/person ratio...and corn subsidies.

Comments:
There may be a third Republican in the race for Governor. A central Iowa judge is taking a close look, consulting with family and friends. There are some ethical considerations involved - can a judge run for office? Will it be necessary to resign or merely take a leave of absence? Has held elective office. Has run for office as a Republican. Has worked in the legislature. Strong ties to Ray and Grassley. Branstad appointee. Confirmed by Senate. Over a quarter century of public service.

Third Republican looking at Governorship is an Elder and Congregation President, scout leader and former chairman of a credit union board.
